Database for digital computers were still part of this day’s work. I had to make updates, updates and more updates on DepEd files.

After making updates, I together with other interns and Administrative Officer, Sir Erns Tallaro, sorted all the school supplies donated by Sterling for student typhoon victims.

Let's Do the Database

Feb 27th, 2013 12:00am

Today’s task is still the same. Being appointed as one who works with the database, I manage to continue what was assigned to me yesterday. However, some division coordinators have sent assessment forms in terms of their readiness on receiving computer facilities and equipment coming from the government agency.

Just when I thought that my internship is over, I was informed that I had to go back to the Department of Education (DepEd) to comply with the remaining nineteen hours.

Office works were on top of the desk. I was assigned to make and update the database of school recepients on digital computers over the Philippines. Among those schools which are ready to receive computer facilities would then be given by DepEd and its other linkages the computer facilities that they need.

Last Day is Still a Busy Day

Feb 18th, 2013 12:00am

It is my last day on internship, yet I still have to work on SPSS. This is also the day when I asked from the administrative department on my OJT requirements. Good thing IBON Foundation has been working on my important papers before the deadline. Admin. Officer, Ma’am Melissa, stated that I could get the documents when they communicate to me that such are ready for pick-up.

Glad To Be Back in DepEd

January 16, 2013

As I went back to where I started, I could feel the warm welcome of my co-interns and bosses there. They told me what they had done over the past few days when I was not there. On this day, I have learned that Deped, in partnership with the Manila Times College, has been organizing workshop from January 15 – 30, 2013. The workshop entitled “Effective Communication for information Officers.” With the workshop’s intention to train public information officers on a variety of fields: public speaking, critiquing would definitely be learning from it. In lieu with this, they have to pay 30,000.00 php which include their food and materials that they needed to use.

Earlier, I was privileged to usher guest with the things that they will be using. I, then, assisted the staff from the Office of the Secretary (OSEC) – Communications Unit as we picked up in kind donations of various school supplies given by the National Book Store in Pasig which will be delivered to some school affected by typhoon Pablo. I made ready the materials, counted them and recorded the list of boxes as instructed by Sir Erns.

It's a Typical Tuesday (Jan 8th, 2013 )

It was on our second day when the Admin. Officer, Ms. Melissa and finance officer, Ma’am Cristy, oriented us regarding the internship program. The orientation was like a meeting conducted for VIPs since it was held in the conference room of IBON foundation. Both explained to us now IBON Foundation began and what is about. They clearly delivered what each intern’s tasks were according to the department where a student belongs. I am assigned at the RED (Reach Expansion Department), and they explained to my responsibilities and job description assigned to me. They told me that I would be doing more office works, bookshop inventory, market research and field work, as well. With the things I heard, I was quickly delighted and ecstatic to work with the company.

However, I got a bit nervous with the other interns, who are also my classmates at PUP, since they would be doing more field works compared to me.

Other concern regarding internship like time schedule, internship requirements and cases of leave of absences were also discussed by them as mentioned in the Memorandum of Agreement. Of course, proper behavior must be observed at all times. Both shared to us that PUP has been connected with their organization so long and that a lot Communication Research student used to apply and work here as OJT. The discussion lasted for about an hour and a half. Before the day ended, I received my I.D. claiming that I am an official IBON Foundation practicumer. The I.D. was good, but I was reminded that I have to return it to the organization at the end of my contact.

Day 7: Getting Acquainted with IBON Foundation (Jan 7th, 2013)

My first day with IBON Foundation is, like the usual, an exciting one for me. I know for a fact that I would be meeting new faces with whom I’d be working for a couple of weeks.

Not to mention, but IBON Foundation will be conducting its what the employees coin as “Birdtalk.” It is about the semi-annual briefing on the economic-political trends of the current administration that would happen on January 10, 2013 at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.

In lieu with this, we, as on-the-job trainees are asked to act like real employees of the said organization. In addition to this, we are tasked to make calls with IBON Foundation subscribers asking them about their fax numbers or e-mail addresses for us to send invitation regarding Birdtalk.

The first few tasks were, indeed, easy for me for the reason that I am also doing such acts on my part-time job as a reservation officer and telemarketer at the same time in one of the renowned resorts in Pandi, Bulacan.

Day 6: Foods for Free! (December 28, 2013)

Christmas isn’t over yet. I could feel the essence of it as each employee in the Department of Education is giving gifts and exchanging foods for the benefit of everyone.

It’s was our sixth day. We were still on a haste to finish all our stuff. We had to make things out to meet the deadline given to our office. Thanks to Sir Erns, an office staff as well, who offered a free heavy lunch from Kentucky Fried Chicken to us, interns, and his co-employees who belong to the same unit.

Busy as it seemed. However, I am so glad this day as a lot of foods overflowed in the office. Not only that, I felt so at home with the department as the employees are very much approachable and fun to be with.

Day 5: Busy Hours: Technically it is what it Means (December 27, 2013)

My fifth day with DepEd? I can safely say that I am busier as compared to my yesterday’s activities there. I was tasked to list the members of the 15th. Congress’ Profiles, including their complete names, district where they serve, nick names and even their spouses if they are married as of now. In addition to this, since Christmas is coming nearer, DepEd has prepared tokens of appreciation which would be given to the members of the House of Representatives. This tokens were wood-carved “ulok” with DepEd’s Secretary, Brother Armin Luistro’s inspirational messages to these individuals.

It may sound simple to those who may read this blog, but it was a busy day for me and my other classmates, Jean and Issa. We were also like regular employees because we were so busy and finally left the office late.

Busy as it may seem for me, but it is a good thing that I made the tasks assigned before me well that day.

Day 4: Thank God It's Friday! (Dec 23nd, 2012 )

Interns in the Department of Education are asked to dress up like real working individuals because it is really a must. Still, there would be an exception. We can wear a polo shirt, a pair of jeans and rubber shoes. in short, we could be like what my typical get-up looks like. However, my classmates and I had possibly embraced the usual practice the office is performing. thank God its Friday. The thing is, we still dressed in a formal manner.

Perhaps, we have been practiced to act, dress and speak like real professionals now. It may sound strange for us, but this on-the-job training is definitely helping each one of us be productive and competitive.

Day 3: Getting To Know More of DepEd Employees (Dec 22nd, 2012)

At first, I thought more of the government employees would be strict and would be in their old age. Well, I was stereo-typing. What I thought then was wrong and I learned about it as I become one of the Department of Education’s interns.

I can safely say that I am lucky enough to have be part of the Office of the Secretary - Communications Unit of the said government agency. Why? Because majority of its employees are young enough and easy to work with. They do not let us feel aloof by letting us feel that there are no walls between us, interns, and them as employees. They tend to teach and tell us what their office’s responsibilities and works are.

Well, I really learn from them.

Day 2: Rule Number One and So On (December 15, 2013)

We, interns, were instructed to, as much as possible, have our corporate or even formal attires whenever we would be going to DepEd to have our internship. We would, of course, have to dress-up like what the usual office staff does. The problem with me was and is always how to dress properly.

I’d rather choose to wear a shirt, a pair of jeans and rubber shoes or flat shoes when I go out.

The DO’s and DONT’s in the office were clearly delivered by Ms. Maggie, the one who is in-charge to instruct us what to do in the Communications Unit.

Latter in time, I’ve realized that I have to follow their requirements. Now’s the time to be different. I have to do this since I will also benefit from it.

It’s nice that the agency is employing such requirements on practicing interns how to dress like a real employee and be a part of their institution.

Day 1: What It Feels Like To Be Working in DepEd (December 14, 2013)

Who doesn’t want to feel the warm welcome of the people and the office you will be serving for few days or even months? Apparently, as I was on my way to the Department of Education’s main office in Pasig City, I was thinking of what my first task for my first day would be. I was excited in the first place since I would be meeting new faces and new atmosphere to work in, and there I was, approaching the Communication Unit of the said department.

On this day, DepEd personnel asked me to fix the letters they made for the members or the 15th. Congress’ House of Representatives. Sir Erns, one of its staff, then asked me to check if the names, designations and addresses of the mentioned sponsors for their programs would be the same with the calling cards they gave to DepEd. I also cut congressmen’s names which would be attached with the token that the said department would be giving to each congresman and party list. And the most exciting part for me was when Issa and I was asked to do press release for the agreement underwent by the Department of Education and the People’s Republic of China’s volunteer Chinese teachers who would be teaching Chinese language, culture and the arts to Filipino citizens.

My first day of internship is indeed tiring, yet full of learning and excitement.

Ad/Pr Case 12: Multiply marks milestone with shopping party - From A Social Networking to an Online Shopping Site

From a social networking, Multiply has now become an online shopping site, and yes, it is now a form of electronic commerce whereby consumers directly buy goods or services from a seller over the Internet without an intermediary service. Multiply now is a social networking service with an emphasis on allowing users to share media – such as photos, videos and blog entries – with their “real-world” network. It is currently the biggest social shop in Southeast Asia with over 125,000 merchants and 20 million unique visitors since September 10, 2010.

As mentioned earlier, Multiply is now offering purchasing of products via online. It further enhanced transactions between the sellers and its buyers.
As the writer read about this article, she agreed at once with the result of the research conducted by TRU (Teens Unlimited). The result of the study shows stating that “to most Filipino teens, imported brands wield no advantage over local ones, or vice versa. This was among the findings laid out in the first Philippine study by global youth research organization TRU (Teens Research Unlimited), a company under global leader in custom market research TNS.”

In the study which reveals that approximately 9 out of 10 teenage Filipinos see local brands which do offer the same quality as those of the imported brands. With these Filipino brands that they patronize, it is Bench which is the number choice of these teenagers. It is seconded by Nike, then Adidas, Jag Jeans, Jollibee, Lee, Levi’s, Avon, Natasha, and Nokia (http://www.mb.com.ph/node/335458/imported-brand, 2011).

The results of a research study on Filipino teenagers might have been surprising and not convincing for some, but it is a proof that despite the pervasive perception among adults that Filipino teens have fully embraced their Western counterparts’ behaviors and attitudes, the study showed that that belief is not exactly true. Of course, these teens consider the price without compromising the quality of their preferred products.

The TRU Study: 2011 Philippines Teen Edition, which was made by global youth research organization Teens Research Unlimited (TRU), considered the mindsets, preferences, and purchasing habits of Filipino teens. What is the significance the study though? This would definitely inspire local brand manufacturers to produce more products that suffice what these teenagers want.
The three DPWH officials namely Undersecretary Romeo Momo, DPWH NCR Director Rey Tagudando, and DPWH South Manila District Engineer Mikunug Macud have really gone places. What places are these? Take note that they (e three officials) have gone to the Rizal Shrine, to other countries like North Korea, United States of America and even on the moon. Well actually, a number of comic reliefs have been scattered right after release of a photo of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) government agency’s official Facebook page. In the picture, it showed the three officials mentioned who were discussing about the damage that Typhoon Pedring brought to Roxas Boulevard Boulevard and Manila Bay’s breakwaters. Little did they know that artists for instance Pierre San Diego (whose name was mentioned in this case), would give criticisms and some other comments stressing that the image was retouched using a photo editing software.

The writer herself also admits that upon seeing the picture, she notices that it was indeed edited. It is obviously seen in there. Now, the puzzling thing is that why this picture was made knowing that experts would really react on it when they realize that that photo was merely edited? The writer then interferes that the discussion thing was allegedly made so that people might have said that these persons are doing their duties with the damages of Typhoon Pedring at the same time showing dedication to their work, but there really was a flaw – it was then quite obvious. If their idea was to edit it like they were really there in the scene of devastating effects from Pedring, then they must have hired a professional editor who would make that picture look like it happened so real. What they have done is now recorded in the history of erroneous work courtesy of the DPWH and it would not be forgotten by people.

1427973230_n.jpg&w=720&h=477&ei=ODcyT57vKLCbmQWw7JS3BQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=92&vpy=155&dur=109&hovh=183&hovw=276&tx=158&ty=85&sig=116559557200567770969&page=1&tbnh=135&tbnw=180&start=0&ndsp=8&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0

Ad/Pr Case 9: PAUL SORIANO - Even the Young Can Make It

Director Paul had always wanted to become a director since he was a kid. He was inspired by his father and grandfather who influenced him to be more interested in movies and commercial sets. Due to this, he made his short films when he got into high school and college and thought he wanted to do that stuff for a living. In addition to this, he would want o meet and work with people in Hollywood then that had raised his interest in that field. In the latter, he was engaged to directing some other commercials for big companies. There, he realized that had must have tried and tested his skill on directing for indie films.

After trying to do direct movies, a lot of people have witnessed that despite the fact that Paul Soriano is just a new director in the movie industry, it did not hinder his way to be known and be distinguished as one of those directors who are directing movies a decade of years ago. Young Soriano’s way of doing films usually has the central themes of forgiveness, family solidarity and upholding of moral values that is why there would not have been doubts if his works would be given an A rating by the Cinema Evaluation Board. And yes, he made it to achieve an A rating with his movie Thelma with Ms. Maja Salvador as the main character of the story (http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=110951878947306, 2009). His expertise on directing commercials has helped him a lot in his venture now. This young director is proud that his works had its viewers touched and inspired upon leaving the theater.

Nothing beats first love. <3

Ad/PR Case 8: The Phenomenal Cheesy Campaign

Fueling Friendship, Spicing up Life!

“But most of what you buy is bought verbally. The mind pays attention to because words add meaning to the product.”

The above sentences are just some of the catchy statements that the writer sees upon reading this article. Well for this, she (the writer) agrees to these lines since she knows that often apply to real life situations. The example given in this case is the “Sobrang Cheesy Campaign” made by Greenwich. It is obvious that there are a lot of pizza chains are present everywhere, and its ubiquity could not be stopped from growing. It is also noticeable that Greenwich has with it the number of competitors in the country. But why does Greenwich manage to be one of the best pizza producers in town? Its famous line “Sobrang Cheesy Talaga!” delivered by renowned actor John Lloyd Cruz, together with his friends, makes it the talk-of-the town among Filipinos. The theme about friendship that it has brought a big impact to the society. In fact, not only people whose age ranges from twenty and up say its “Sobrang Cheesy Talaga!” line, but also those of young minds as well. Due to this phenomenon, Greenwich is able to gain more consumers which resulted to more profit acquisition.

This Cheesy Campaign phenomenon could be related to the Social Action Theory which was developed by Anderson and Meyer where this theory implies that “media audiences participate actively in mediated communication; they construct meanings from the content they perceive.” Social action theory sees communication interaction in terms of actors’ intent, receivers’ interpretations, and message content. Meaning is not delivered in the communication process; rather it is constructed within it (http://oregonstate.edu/instruct/comm321/gwalker/effectsmedia.htm).

So what message does the producer of the commercial wants its audience to tell? Greenwich practically wants to show strong friendship, eating together, doing things they have in common and going to Greenwich Pizza to spend quality time together. Here, the audience may interpret this as something they may imitate to provide a strong friendship relationship as well.

Certain organizations set rules and regulations that they follow. However, some may have violated these as time goes.

As what the writer reads in the seventh Ad/PR Case to react on, she is able to know that there exists an organization named as the Philippine Association of Philippine Advertisers (PANA) which remains the same even if it is compared to its former performances fifty-two years ago.

It is good to know that there are organizations that maintain the values and practices they have started no matter what happens to them. Even if they are tested with crisis or whatever challenges they face, they still manage to be the same, and PANA is one of those. It primarily sticks to its constructed policy because it is properly guided by the vision and mission that it has.

Systems Theory as proposed by Ludwig von Bertalanffy, could be related to this phenomenon where it states that “system is an organized set of interrelated and interacting parts that maintain their own balance amid the influences of the environment.” Now for PANA, it did not and does not change despite all odds.it remains static with its regulations and does not adapt to external changes (http://linda.perry.net/nm2219/theories8.htm, n. d.).
